About Nalam Biosciences
We build bioinformatics pipelines, AI models, and scientific software for research groups and biotech teams — combining deep domain expertise with modern engineering.
Built at the Intersection of Biology and Software
Nalam Biosciences OÜ was founded in Tartu, Estonia by two PhD researchers with the belief that high-quality bioinformatics and life science software should be accessible to research groups and biotech companies of any size.
The name Nalam (நலம்) is a Tamil word meaning “wellbeing” — reflecting our motivation to advance health through better biological data analysis and smarter scientific tools.
We work with research groups, biotech startups, and technical teams that need reliable bioinformatics analysis or scientific software — delivered with scientific rigour and without the overhead of building an in-house team.

Expertise
Together, the founding team combines biological research depth with practical bioinformatics, AI, and software development expertise — delivering work that is grounded in peer-reviewed science and built to production standard.
What We Stand For
We believe that rigorous, well-engineered bioinformatics and life science software should be accessible to any research group or biotech team — not only those with large in-house teams.
Scientific Integrity
We apply peer-reviewed methods, cite our approaches, and never over-claim what an analysis can show. Uncertainty is communicated clearly, not hidden.
Reproducibility
Every pipeline and analysis we deliver is version-controlled, containerised, and documented so results can be independently reproduced and audited.
Clarity of Communication
We translate technical findings into clear, actionable language — whether for a bioinformatician, a clinician, or a business stakeholder.
Long-term Thinking
We build solutions that outlast a single project — scalable architectures, maintainable code, and thorough documentation that your team can own and extend.
Client Ownership
All code, pipelines, and deliverables belong to you. We do not impose proprietary platforms or lock-in that creates dependency on us.
Privacy & Ethics
We handle biological and clinical data with the ethical care it demands. GDPR compliance is built into how we work from the start.
Tartu, Estonia — at the Heart of European Research
Tartu is home to Estonia's leading research university and a thriving life science ecosystem. Estonia itself is one of the most digitally advanced countries in the world — with e-residency, a digital-first government, and strong startup infrastructure.
Being EU-based means our clients benefit from GDPR data protection standards as a legal baseline, not just a policy statement. It also means reliable legal and contractual frameworks for international collaboration.
We work remotely and asynchronously with clients across North America, Europe, and Asia — time zones are not a barrier.
